Selection Regulations

Generic Requirements
Any person wishing to apply for the Surgical Education and Training Program in Urology must satisfy the generic eligibility criteria determined by the RACS. All generic eligibility requirements must be satisfied at the time of registration when applicants must also consent to a full criminal history check including the submission of relevant documentation if required. For more detailed information refer to the generic eligibility requirements for 2021 intake (conducted during 2020).

Urology Specific Requirements
Any person wishing to apply for the Surgical Education and Training Program in Urology must also satisfy the urology specific eligibility requirements outlined in SET Selection Regulations for the 2021 intake (conducted during 2020).

Future eligibility requirement
The requirement to successfully complete the Clinical Examination prior to application will be deferred until 2022. Successful completion of the RACS Clinical Examination (CE) will be a mandatory eligibility requirement for the 2023 intake (conducted in 2022). The number of attempts made at the RACS Clinical Examination, may also be taken into consideration in the awarding of CV points.

Application Process

Selection for entry to the SET Program in Urology (2021 intake) will continue. Applications will only be open to eligible doctors who successfully completed the SET registration process in early 2020.

The revised application period for the 2021 intake is as follows:

  • Applications Open Wednesday 20 May 2020 at 12:00 noon (AEST)
  • Applications Close Friday 12 June 2020 at 12:00 noon (AEST)

Note: within the Selection Regulations, references are made to ‘opening date’ and ‘closing date’ for applications. Within Section 5 (Eligibility Requirements) and Section 8 (Curriculum Vitae), these references pertain to the original opening date (26 February 2020) and closing date (25 March 2020).

During the revised application period, applicants will be able to access their online application form. Late applications will not be considered.

Referee reporting
The revised referee reporting period for the 2021 intake is as follows:

  • Referee Reporting Opens - Wednesday 15 July 2020
  • Referee Reporting Closes - Wednesday 12 August 2020 8.00pm (AEST)

Nomination of referees - Clause 10.8 of the Selection Regulations states that ‘All referees must come from clinical terms in the 3 clinical years immediately prior to closing date for applications.’ Whilst this pertains to the original closing date (25 March 2020), applicants may nominate referees from terms of no less than 10 weeks duration as at 22 April 2020.
