Celebrating USANZ Members

Sexual Medicine Society of North America Research Prize

USANZ is delighted to share the news that some of our Members have received an international research prize. Dr Ross Calopedos, together with co-authors Associate Professor Prem Rashid and Ming Zhang, received a research prize from the Sexual Medicine Society of North America (SMSNA) for their work presented at a research conference on penile anatomy.

Providing further understanding of penile suspensory ligament anatomy, it is wonderful to see this research being recognised for the notable contribution that it is. Congratulations to you all!

USANZ Members at Singapore General Hospital Urology 35th Anniversary

The Singapore General Hospital (SGH) Urology Department recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary with a number of activities including Workshops and the main Symposium from 17–18 November 2023. Fellows and Urologists from across the Asia-Pacific region attended this meeting, including USANZ Members Associate Professor Raymond Ko and Dr Christopher Chee.

On Friday 17 November, Raymond (Nepean and Concord Hospitals in Sydney, NSW) presented at the SGH Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery Workshop on the topic 'Tips and Tricks for Success. Thinking Beyond Stone Size: Other Stone and Patient Factors for Consideration During Case Selection'. Raymond was also involved in running the hands-on workshop activities.

Having undertaken his Urology training at Singapore General Hospital, Christopher returned to his alma mater for the meeting. Christopher has been working as a Consultant Urologist at Port Macquarie since 2009.

During their time at the meeting, the highlight was the SGH Urology 35th Anniversary Gala Dinner held on Saturday 18 November. The guest of honour was the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, Mr Lawrence Wong, who joined in the celebrations of the department's vast achievements.

USANZ Member at Malaysian Urological Conference and Brazilian Congress of Urology

November was a busy month for international urological meetings, and for the USANZ Members who travelled overseas to participate in these meetings. Clinical Associate Professor Vincent Tse attended two separate meetings, first in Brazil and then Malaysia.

Vincent attended the 39th Brazilian Congress of Urology (CBU) from 18–21 November. This meeting was held at the Salvador Convention Center in Bahia, Brazil. Following this, he travelled to Malaysia for the 32nd Malaysian Urological Conference. On the second day of the program, Vincent presented in the Functional/Female Urology Symposium on the topic 'Intrinsic Sphincter Deficiency: Do We Now Have a Consensus for Diagnosis and Treatment?'. He also participated in a debate with Peggy Chu, arguing the Against side in Debate 4: 'Male sling vs Artificial Urinary Sphincter in Post-Prostatectomy Incontinence: Ending the Debate'.

It's great to see our Members representing the Society at international meetings. We look forward to hearing about USANZ Member participation at future meetings, both locally and internationally.
