USANZ congratulates Weranja Ranasinghe for winning the prestigious Early Investigator Research Award by the US Department of Defense (DOD) Prostate Cancer Research Program. Weranja received this award for his research into ductal prostate cancer at Monash University, securing AUD$500,000 in grant funding.

Weranja works with Professor Gail Risbridger and her team at Monash University and clinicians from the MD Anderson Cancer Centre, US, to develop precision therapies for aggressive prostate cancers using patient-derived models. This grant will fund his translational research to identify a targeted therapy for lethal ductal prostate cancer, which has a poor response to standard prostate cancer therapies.
