Report of the Australian Roundtable on Gender Affirming Surgery

The Australian Gender Affirming Surgery Roundtable was organised by the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons with the Australian Collaborative on Access to Gender Affirming Medical Care.

The meeting was held on 2 December 2023, facilitated by Ruth Ferandez. This was a ground breaking gathering of participants who came together to discuss what services for gender incongruence exist in Australia now, what is working well and not so well, and what the principles of good services are.

The Roundtable included people with lived experience, plastic surgeons, surgeons from other disciplines (urology, gynacology, ENT), endocrinologists, GPs, psychiatrists and sexual health physicians, as well as representatives from important groups including AusPATH, AMA and RACS.

The Roundtable has now released its 2023 Report, including a summary of design principles for gender-affirming surgery services and key elements of service design nominated by participants.
