USANZ Members Honoured on both Sides of the Tasman

The Society congratulates our Members who were recently recognised by their respective countries with honours for their service to medicine, education and contribution to society in general.

Stu Gowland was awarded a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, in the New Year Honours 2021 announced in New Zealand on 31 December 2020. Stu received the honour for services to health and education. Specifically, for significant contributions to the development and improvement of rural health services in New Zealand, through the Mobile Surgical Bus, launched in 2002.

Over the Tasman on 25 January 2021, as part of the Australia Day Honours, Helen O'Connell received recognition as an Officer of the Order of Australia for her distinguished service to medical education, and to medicine, in the field of urology, as an academic and clinician, and to professional groups. In addition, David Webb was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for his service to medicine, particularly to urological surgery.
 
USANZ recognises the vast amount of work and numerous achievements along the way that have culminated in these honours and wish all three recipients continued success.
