The North Coast Area Health Service will consider applications from doctors who want to work as a sessional VMO with rights of private practice, who possess the FRACS(Urol), and have unconditional specialist registration in Urology with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA).
Port Macquarie is located on the mid-north ‘holiday’ coast of New South Wales, approximately 4 hours north of Sydney and 7 hours south of Brisbane on the Pacific Highway. Port Macquarie Base Hospital is a growing regional hospital operating 195 beds. Additional service provision covers Kempsey and Wauchope District Hospitals. This level 5 advanced urological service has a catchment area of 120,000 and this VMO position is advertised as an addition to an established 4 person unit.
The urological service is supported by an Emergency Department, Intensive Care, and Coronary Care Unit with 8 operating theatres and a full complement of surgical services, excluding cardio-thoracic and neurosurgery. The North Coast Cancer Institute offers onsite radiation & oncology unit.
Port Macquarie Base Hospital is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for advanced urological training with 2 SET trainees through the New South Wales training scheme.
The VMO will be expected to participate in clinical & teaching activities, including the Urological on-call roster (anticipated to become 1:5 with this appointment).
Applicants with additional post SET training in advanced laparoscopic, uro-oncology, stone or reconstructive urology, would be highly regarded.
Applicants must be willing to enter into a contract for liability coverage or carry appropriate professional indemnity insurance and must agree to undergo a criminal record check. They must also have an established record of harmonious relations with their colleagues and with hospital personnel in previous positions.
A conjoint appointment with the University of NSW is possible, pending assessment of a separate application to UNSW.
