Keith Kirkland and Villis Marshall Award Winners 2020

The Keith Kirkland & Villis Marshall Session was held on 22 November as a virtual event, during USANZ Trainee Week 2020.

The session showcased presentations by SET Urology Trainees with all abstracts assessed by the Board of Urology to ensure they met the high standards required for this session.

This year, 12 abstracts were accepted, 8 for the Keith Kirkland Award and 4 for the Villis Marshall Award. The awards are judged on several criteria including the podium presentation at the session, scientific content and discussion. 

The Society congratulates the 2020 recipients of the Awards Sheliyan Raveenthiran and Dermot O’Kane.

Sheliyan Raveenthiran from NSW was awarded the Keith Kirkland Award for the best presentation of a study with research endpoints having a direct clinical impact/related to individual patient care for his presentation 68Ga-PSMA PET/CT better predicts localisation of prostate cancer than 3T multiparametric MRI in men with PIRADS 3-5 abnormalities – correlation with histology at radical prostatectomy. 

Dermot O’Kane from Victoria was awarded the Villis Marshall Award for the best presentation of a study undertaken by a full time research trainee or a study in which epidemiological, economic or basic science/translational content are the primary outcomes examined for the presentation Zinc preconditioning protects against renal ischaemia-reperfusion injury through manipulation of key metabolic pathways.

USANZ also congratulates and thanks all of the Traines who submitted an abstract and presented during the session.

The recipients of each Award receive $1000 from USANZ as well as an AUF Travelling Fellowship to the value of $2500 to present their work overseas.
