ANZJS Urology Editor

Late last year, USANZ called for expressions of interest for the role of ANZ Journal of Surgery (ANZJS) Deputy Editor in Urology. 

We are delighted to announce Prof Lewis Chan has been selected to fill this role.

Lewis will join Prof Shomik Sengupta on the ANZJS editorial team. Previously the Deputy Editor, Shomik is the newly appointed Lead Specialty Editor following Dr Amanda Chung's decision to step down. 

The Society would like to acknowledge Amanda's work at ANZJS and wishes Lewis and Shomik all the best in their roles. 

SBS Interview: Chinese Healthcare Workers in Australia

Interviewed by SBS Australia in Mandarin, Dr Wenjie Zhong shares his journey as a Chinese immigrant trained within the Australian medical system. He reflects on his transition from China to Australia and the determination required to build a medical career in a new country and healthcare environment.

He speaks about the challenges of assimilating into Australian culture, both professionally and personally. This included adapting to different communication styles, workplace norms, and a new lifestyle that places strong emphasis on teamwork, work–life balance, and professional accountability.

Dr Zhong also discusses the demands of the Australian medical training and accreditation system, which required extensive retraining, examinations, and supervised practice. Navigating these requirements while adjusting to a new healthcare structure was both rigorous and time-consuming.

In addition, he highlights learning to meet Australian patient expectations, such as shared decision-making, patient autonomy, clear communication, and culturally sensitive care. Through persistence, resilience, and continuous adaptation, Dr Zhong ultimately achieved his goal of becoming a respected medical professional in Australia.
