Rajan Narula 1956 - 2024

The Urological Society of Australia and New Zealand has been informed of the death of Dr Rajan Narula.

Rajan was born, the youngest of four in New Delhi in 1956.

He attended the Armed Forces Medical College in Pune, commencing in 1974. He continued to serve in the Army where he gained his surgical qualifications, distinguishing himself by receiving the University Gold Medal in Surgery and the Director General Armed Forces Medal. He continued to work in the Army, as a General and Orthopaedic surgeon, until his release in 1991.

In 1992, Rajan made the bold choice to take on a new country and new language, moving with his family to Norway. Here he worked in Stavanger as a Breast and Endocrine Surgeon, before undertaking his Urology training. He qualified as a Urology consultant in 1998.

In 2007, Rajan, looking for a more hospitable climate, elected to move to Townsville with his wife, Laddy, and two daughters, Shilpa and Shagun. He worked in Townsville as the Director of Urology until the family moved to the Sunshine Coast in 2019.

Rajan had a keen interest in developing the future Urologists and was instrumental in establishing training positions at Townsville and the Sunshine Coast. He was a calm and diligent surgeon, who gained respect from those that worked with him, and those that were treated by him.

His presence, wisdom and sense of humour will be missed by all but particularly his family Laddy, Shilpa and Shagun. His selflessness continued till the end, as he elected to be a organ donor, which enabled him to continue to help patients.
