Urologist
Ballarat Urology is seeking expressions of interest from suitable RACS qualified urologists wishing to practice in the large regional Victorian centre of Ballarat.
The position facilitates the provision of urology services to the Ballarat and surrounding communities through private practice at Ballarat Urology, public appointments at Ballarat Health Services (theatre and outpatient sessions) and peripheral centres as a visiting urologist, with participation in a 1 in 5 on-call roster.
Ballarat is a large regional community, approximately 75 minutes by train west of Melbourne, and provides all the benefits of a regional lifestyle with easy access to metropolitan amenities if required. It is well resourced, with superb schooling and sporting facilities, and a strong cultural heritage. There is a vibrant medical workforce with excellent hospital resources, and representation from all surgical specialties with the exception of paediatric, cardiothoracic and neurosurgery.
Ballarat Urology provides urological services to a large area of western Victoria and beyond in a collegiate and supportive environment with excellent staff and physical facilities. The full range of urological surgery is performed, reflecting the subspecialty interests of the individual practitioners, with the exception of retroperitoneal lymph node dissection and sentinel lymph node biopsy for penile carcinoma. The absence of cardiothoracic support is a consideration in renal tumour thrombus management, and a robotic surgery programme is yet to commence. There is a strong emphasis on training and education, Ballarat Health Services Urology unit currently staffed by an accredited urology trainee, an unaccredited registrar, and two junior doctors. Support is also provided by urology liaison, outpatient, and dedicated prostate cancer nurses.
