AMA-NT Safe Hours Audit

The AMA Northern Territory Safe Hours Audit has been conducted every five years since 2001, with the 2021 audit delayed due to COVID-19. The audit is a survey of public hospital doctors' working hours to assess the fatigue risk in current working environments.

The AMA Northern Territory wants to know how many hours public hospital doctors are working so they can continue their advocacy to reform public hospital funding.

The 2023 audit runs from Monday 20 November to midnight Sunday 26 November. Hours for the audit period can be submitted through to midnight on Wednesday 22 December 2023.

The AMA National Code of Practice - Hours of Work, Shiftwork and Rostering for Hospital Doctors responds to ongoing concerns about working hours and safe practice. The code was revised in 2016 and provides practical guidance on how to manage fatigue and eliminate or minimise the risks associated with shiftwork and extended working hours.

The AMA National Code of Practice – Flexible Work and Training Practices is a useful tool to assist employers, training providers, doctors, and doctors in training to implement and access best practice flexible work and training arrangements.
