From the USANZ Operations Room

For UroNews 2 April 2021

There is never a dull moment in the USANZ office, and in this new monthly column, I look forward to sharing with you some of the 'behind-the-screens' stories from the team that works each day to support you, our Members.

Over recent weeks the USANZ team has been implementing our COVID Safe Return to Work program. Like so many, the team adapted quickly and continued to deliver for the organisation while working from home for most of 2020. Now, while the COVID-19 environment in Sydney is quite relaxed, our staff are increasing time in the office while continuing to observe the necessary health precautions. Here is a photo of our recent team meeting with staff connecting both in-person and via zoom, a hybrid-style we are all increasingly familiar with.

Members would be aware of the opportunity for two younger fellows to participate in the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) Emerging Leaders Forum (ELF). This is an outstanding learning opportunity for aspiring leaders within our membership and USANZ is very fortunate to be invited once again to send participants. Over a number of years we have developed strong ties with 'like-minded' surgical societies (like the AOA). It started with dialogue among the respective CEOs on common issues and has developed into a very helpful forum. The opportunity for USANZ attendees at the ELF is a direct outcome of this strong relationship and we are grateful to the AOA for the invitation.

Late last year we consolidated our IT support and services with Milnsbridge Managed IT Services. The project was given increased importance to facilitate the team working remotely. I'm happy to say that all staff now have improved remote access allowing for greater flexibility and productivity. The consolidation of services with Milnsbridge Managed IT Services has the added benefit of saving the Society approximately $50,000 per year in our IT support costs.

As we move into the second quarter of the year, with a hint of Autumn in the air and the holidays upon us, I would like to wish our Members and their families a very happy and safe holiday weekend.

Until next month,

Michael Nugara
USANZ CEO
