Award Winners at 2023 Australian Section Meetings
With the 2023 USANZ Section Meetings now wrapped up, we would like to congratulate the following award recipients who were acknowledged at their respective meetings in October and November.
USANZ would also like to thank all those who attended the Section Meetings, promoting a sense of collegiality and connection amongst the membership.
Victoria
The 2023 USANZ Victorian Section Meeting was held on Friday 6 October at the Collins Square Business & Events Centre in Melbourne. The meeting was convened by Dr Gideon Blecher.
The Peter Lawson Award for the Best Victorian Registrar was presented to Dr Sophie Tissot at the meeting. With this award, Sophie received a prize of $1000 and a trophy.
The Best Research Paper Presentation was awarded to David Hennes for his presentation on Biomechanical and immunobiological properties of human fascia lata (HFL) vs mesh: implications for pelvic reconstructive surgery. David received a $250 cash prize.
The Second Best Research Paper Presentation was awarded to Dr Niranjan Sathianathen for his paper on the Cost-effectiveness of single-dose intravesical therapy after TURBT in Australian healthcare system. Niranjan received a cash prize of $100.

Northern
Convened by A/Prof Devang Desai, the 2023 USANZ Northern Section Meeting was held at the Burke & Wills Hotel in Toowoomba, Queensland from 13–15 October.
This year, there were two recipients of the Frank Gardiner Award for Best Registrar/PHO Presentation. Congratulations to Harry Collin and Kale Munien!
Harry presented on Artificial Intelligence in Urology – Assessing the Infinite Utility of ChatGPT for Patients & Clinicians, and Kale presented on A novel retrograde urethrogram technique: An argument for Urologist led urethrograms.
The winner of the Frank Gardiner Award receives a grant of $2,500 towards the cost of attending the USANZ ASM. The prize money for the 2023 award will be split between Harry and Kale.
South Australia and Northern Territory
The 2023 USANZ South Australia and Northern Territory Section Meeting was held on Saturday 28 October at the Adelaide Convention Centre. The Co-Meeting Convenors were Dr Jonathon Cho and Dr Rick Catterwell.
The winner of the St Paul's Ball for Best Presentation at the 2023 USANZ South Australia and Northern Territory Section Meeting was Dr Athul John. Athul presented on the impact of positive surgical margin location after radical prostatectomy on biochemical recurrence: A systematic review and network Meta-analysis.

New South Wales
The 2023 USANZ New South Wales Section Meeting was held at Newcastle City Hall from 2–4 November. Thank you to the Convenor of the Meeting, Dr Albert Tiu, and the Scientific Chair, Dr Nicholas Mehan.
Congratulations to Dr Brayden March, recipient of the the George Schnitzler Award for Best Registrar of 2023.
The Chris Farrell Award for Best Registrar Presentation was awarded to Dr Varun Bhoopathy for his presentation on the Reduction of Hazardous Surgical Smoke during GreenLight® Laser Prostatectomy - A simple and effective solution. Congratulations, Varun!

Tasmania
Convened by Dr Richard Cetti, the 2023 USANZ Tasmanian Section Meeting was held at the Tramsheds Function Centre in Invermay, Tasmania from 17–18 November.
Congratulations to Kylie Yen-Yi Lim, winner of the Robbie Roberts Prize for the Best Registrar Presentation. Kylie presented on the Outcomes of irreversible electroporation utilising PSMA PET-CT. With this prize, Kylie will receive
