Trainee Week 2024 - Reports from International Delegates
During our annual Trainee Week, USANZ hosts delegates from international urological associations as part of a reciprocal relationship with the BAUS Section of Trainees (BSoT), the Urological Association of Asia (UAA), the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the Canadian Urological Association (CUA).
This opportunity invites a cross-cultural exchange of knowledge and practices between urological Trainees, and encourages collaboration and networking opportunities between international colleagues.
Ten international delegates who joined us in Brisbane for USANZ Trainee Week 2024 have provided reports of their experiences. We were delighted to read such positive accounts of their time with USANZ.
All international delegates mentioned the hospitality of everyone at Trainee Week. They were particularly impressed by the visit to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Thanks to the USANZ Training team, Deborah Klein and Jenny Hislop, for organising such an engaging scientific and social program for the international delegates!
BSoT Representative
Dr Thomas Fonseka from the UK was one of the BSoT representatives. He provided a detailed report, highlighting the case-based discussions (demonstrating differences between Australian and UK clinical practices), information about international fellowship opportunities, and social program throughout Brisbane.
UAA Representatives
Dr Ruwanpathirana Neranga Samarasinghe, a second-year trainee from Colombo, was one the UAA representatives. He remarked on the networking aspects of Trainee Week, as it provided an opportunity to develop bonds between trainees in Australia and beyond.
Dr Hao Xiang Chen, who is in his final year of training in Taiwan, was the second UAA representative. He was impressed by the comprehensive urological training provided at Trainee Week and the depth of the Australian trainees' knowledge, as evidenced by the Masters of the UroVerse quiz. He was impressed by the communication skills of the trainees who confidently responded to difficult questions.
Dr lham Akbar Rahman from Indonesia was also a UAA representative. He was excited to learn about how training occured in other countries and to hear from senior Urologists about their professional experiences.
