Award Winners at 2025 USANZ Section Meetings
With the 2025 USANZ Section Meetings now wrapped up, we would like to congratulate the following award recipients who were acknowledged at their respective meetings in October and November.
USANZ would also like to thank all those who attended the Section Meetings, promoting a sense of collegiality and connection amongst the membership.
Victoria
The 2025 USANZ Victorian Section Meeting was held on Saturday 11 October at the All Seasons Bendigo. This year the meeting was organised by A/Prof Janelle Brennan (Urology Program Convenor) and Jana Middlemis (Nurses' Program Convenor).
The Peter Lawson Award for the Best Victorian Registrar was presented to USANZ Member Dr Jiasian Teh. With this award, Niranjan received a prize of $1000 and a trophy.
The Best Verbal Presentation was awarded to Dr Alice Thomson for “Scribe Smarter, Not Harder: How AI Scribes Stack Up Against Human Clinicians”
The Best Poster Presentation was awarded to Dr Yajat Dua for “Patients with High-Risk Features on Active Surveillance for Prostate Cancer”

Aotearoa New Zealand
The 2025 USANZ Aotearora New Zealand Section Meeting was held at Pullman Auckland City Hotel from Wednesday 8 October to Friday 10 October. This year, it was convened by USANZ Member Dr Simon van Rij with NZUNS Convenor Megan Goudie.
The JMO Award (sponsored by Mobile Health) was presented to Katie Mallalieu. Katie's presentation topic was "Is a Patient-Centred Selective Approach for Investigations with CT Urogram in Patients with Visible Haematuria Feasible and Safe?".

Northern
Convened by Dr Andrew Keller, the 2025 USANZ Northern Section Meeting was held at Peppers Noosa from Friday 17 to Sunday 19 October.
The Frank Gardiner Award for Best Registrar/PHO Presentation was awarded to Tayla Fay. Congratulations!
As the winner of the Frank Gardiner Award, Tayla received a grant of $2,500 towards the cost of attending the USANZ ASM.
South Australia and Northern Territory
The 2025 USANZ South Australia and Northern Territory Section Meeting was held on Saturday 18 October at the Crowne Plaza in Adelaide, convened by Dr Sophie Plagakis. The Meeting was preceded by a Registrar Training Afternoon and Workshop on Friday 17 October.
The winner of the St Paul's Ball Prize for Best Presentation by a USANZ Member was Rowan David for his critical appraisal of Dmochowski et al. (2020): “Increased Risk of Incident Dementia Following Use of Anticholinergic Agents”
The Best Presentation Award was presented to joint winners Darcy Noll for their presentation on the "follow up of patients with PIRADS 4/5 lesions and a negative prostate biopsy"; and, Claris Oh for their presentation, "A South Australian Retrospective Audit of Outcomes Following PIRADS 1–2 Prostate MRI Findings.

New South Wales
The 2025 USANZ New South Wales Section Meeting was held at the Oaks Cypress Lakes, Hunter Valley from 6-8 November. The Meeting was convened by Drs Raymond Stanton and Edward Latif.
USANZ Member Dr Cameron Parkin was announced as the recipient of the George Schnitzler Award for Best Registrar of 2025.
The Chris Farrell Award for Best Registrar Presentation was awarded to USANZ Member Dr Stuart Jackson for his presentation on the "The Prostate Cancer eHealth Literacy Instrument (P-CeHLI): A New Tool for Digital Health Intervention Design and Tailored Communication with Patients.”

Western Australia
The 2025 USANZ Western Australia Section Meeting was held at Esplanade Hotel Fremantle from 10-11 October, convened by Dr Robert Goodwin.
This year the England-Watson Prize was awarded to Claris Oh, who spoke on "Preventing BCG toxicity – what are our strategies?" and "Urine based diagnostics for bladder cancer in Australia and New Zealand".

Tasmania
Convened by Dr Victor Ilie, the 2025 USANZ Tasmanian Section Meeting was held at Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston from 31 October to 1 November.
Congratulations to Dr Henry Pan, winner of the Robbie Roberts Prize for the Best Registrar Presentation. Henry's paper was entitled "Assessing the feasibility and validity of a cross-specialty bleeding simulation model in robotic surgery – a pilot study”. With this prize, Henry will receive $2,500 towards expenses to attend the USANZ ASM in 2026.
