85% Rebate Reinstated for MBS Items 36833 and 36836

The 85% rebate for MBS Items 36833 and 36836 has been re-instated.

In March 2025, the Department of Health and Aged Care removed this rebate, alongside other procedural items that were identified as unsuitable for use outside of a hospital or hospital-equivalent setting. Over the past year, ANZAUS has been actively appealing this decision, with the support of the USANZ Leadership Group.

A granular review of all relevant item numbers found that, in many cases, the rebate was never or rarely claimed.

On 4 June 2025, ANZAUS requested that the 85% rebate be reinstated for items 36812, 36833, 36836, and 18379. Item 36812 has since been reinstated.

In April 2026 the Department confirmed the reinstatement of the 85% rebate for items 36833 and 36836.
