BURST Program at BAUS 26

The program for the British Urology Researchers in Surgical Training (BURST) component of BAUS 2026 has now been released.

BURST focuses on tackling the issues shaping urology today, bringing together the leading voices driving the specialty forward.

On Monday 15 June, a panel will discuss the gap between evidence and experience, as experts argue for positions that might just change your practice. Aishah Azam will argue that ultrasound should be mandatory before scrotal exploration, John McGrath will challenge the role of CT urograms as first-line imaging in haematuria, Susan Willis will debate whether ureteric stents should be avoided in uncomplicated ureteroscopy, and John Kelly will ask whether blue light cystoscopy is simply a waste of time.

On Tuesday 16 June, the TUF x BURST session will be held, starting with a keynote from Sinan Khadhouri on how to transform a good idea into a funded project. After the keynote, shortlisted teams will pitch their research proposals live to our judges and audience, competing for your votes to take their ideas to the next level.

On Wednesday 17 June, the question is "Is the AI bubble about to BURST?", as Nicolas Raison and Freddie Hamdy debate the use of AI in research and clinical practice. In addition, David Canes from the Lahey Institute of Urology (USA) will offer a keynote lecture on how AI is already being integrated into day-to-day urological practice.
