Spotlight on Urology
Spotlight on Urology takes a look at recent activities undertaken to advance urology around the world. This week we provide an update on media about bladder pain syndrome as well as a wrapup of the Jordanian Association of Urological Surgeons Congress.
Media on Bladder Pain Syndrome
USANZ Vice-President Ashani Couchman was interviewed by The Advertiser about bladder pain syndrome, highlighting the impact of delayed diagnosis and the importance of taking persistent symptoms seriously.
The article shares the experience of Christine Engelson, who endured years of debilitating pain and urinary symptoms before receiving a diagnosis. Her story illustrates the physical and emotional toll of living with an unrecognised condition.
Ashani emphasised that bladder pain syndrome requires careful assessment to exclude other causes, and that ongoing symptoms without a clear diagnosis warrant further investigation. She highlighted how appropriate care can make a meaningful difference to patients’ lives.
The article was also syndicated across the Herald Sun, Gold Coast Bulletin and The Daily Telegraph, helping bring wider attention to the condition.

Jordanian Urology Congress
The Jordanian Association of Urological Surgeons’ 16th Annual Congress was held in Amman on 1-2 October 2026
USANZ member Chris Love was an invited speaker at the Congress. He presented on 'Complications of Inflatable Penile Implant Surgery' as part of a session on Andrology.
It's wonderful to see USANZ represented in these international forums.
