Celebrating USANZ Members

New Chair of Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry Victoria

The Prostate Cancer Outcomes Registry - Victoria (PCOR-Vic) collects information about treatments and outcomes following prostate cancer diagnosis in Victoria.

Prof Jeremy Millar was previously the Chair of this Committee but has recently stepped back from the role.

USANZ would like to congratulate Dr Marlon Perera on his recent appointment as the incoming Chair. Marlon is the first Urologist to lead this registry and is keen to promote the continued participation of Victorian urologists.

Largely funded by Movember, PCOR-Vic has been active since 2008. Since its inception, over 50,000 prostate cancer patients have been identified.

USANZ at EAU 2025

This week we are celebrating USANZ's presence at the European Association of Urology's annual Congress.

EAU 2025 was held last week in Madrid from 21-24 March 2025. Quite a few of our Members attended the event and it was great to see so many familiar names on the program. Congratulations to all presenters!

UAA Lecturer at EAU

The Urological Association of Asia (UAA) was invited to nominate a Lecturer to speak at EAU 2025. Following a call for Expressions of Interest in August last year, the USANZ Board of Directors endorsed Dr Gregory Jack for this opportunity.

It is a significant achievement that Gregory was then selected by the UAA for this position, out of all the nominations by UAA Member Associations.

As the UAA Lecturer, Gregory presented on the topic "Small Scopes for Ureteroscopy: How Small is Small?". This paper formed part of a thematic session on Seminal Developments in Upper Tract Endoscopy.

Congratulations, Gregory!

USANZ-EAU Joint Session

Urology Beyond Europe, the Joint Session of the EAU and USANZ, was held on Friday 21 March at EAU 2025.

The topic of the Joint Session was "Precision Medicine in Urologic Cancers: Imaging, AI and Evolving Therapies", chaired by USANZ President Prof Damien Bolton and Prof Evangelos Liatsikos. The session explored the latest advancements in prostate, urothelial, and renal cancer, innovative diagnostic tools, imaging techniques, and evolving treatment strategies.

We were delighted to see over 150 Delegates in attendance. A number of USANZ Members participated in the session along with their European colleagues.

USANZ Members presented on the following topics:

  • Focal Therapy: How it supports a risk-stratified screening program for prostate cancer, from Dr Jeremy Grummet
  • Australia’s Expertise in PSMA-PET/CT: Insights from the PEDAL Trial and other collaborative research, from A/Prof Lih-Ming Wong
  • Role of novel imaging on the staging and treatment of high risk prostate cancer, from Dr Renu Eapen
  • BCG Unresponsive NMIBC: Current status and new treatments on the horizon, from Prof Manish Patel
  • BCG Unresponsive NMIBC: Current status and new treatments on the horizon, from Prof Shomik Sengupta

USANZ Members in Plenary Sessions

A/Prof Vincent Tse and Dr Eva Fong were invited to present in the Female Urology Plenary Session at EAU 2025. Vincent participated in a case discussion on female incontinence: What to do when synthetic midurethral slings fail?

Vincent's topic of discussion was "Be Minimally Invasive: Bulking Agent". Following this, Eva delivered the state-of-the-art lecture on "Managing Painful Midurethral Slings". For more information on Eva's presentation, view the EAU article: Sling pain management and salvage techniques for male sphincter in frail urethra.

In the Plenary Session on Navigating the Urge: Clinical decision-making in patients in overactive bladder (OAB) and benign prostatic obstruction (BPO), Dr Renu Eapen participated in a debate, arguing OAB first over BPO in the management of OAB/BPO patients.

Dr John Yaxley also participated in a Plenary Session on Enhancing quality of care in prostate cancer, with a presentation on "Quality Metrics in Prostate Cancer".

USANZ would like to congratulate Vincent, Eva, Renu and John on their quality presentations at the EAU!
